Before 2000, these were limited to the State-run PTV, PTV World and Channel 3, but a newly-introduced open media policy caused many new private channels to spring up over the years. These initially stole away nearly all of the PTV-Network market while the initial hype lasted, but soon audiences were shunning even these channels for lack of quality, finally settling on either Indian channels, or Western channels. However, over the time some Pakistani channels have been able to produce a sizable amount of decent programs. Geo TV, being one of the most viewed TV channels in Pakistan, with an estimated audience of over 10 million every day.
